A different story…

My family and I celebrate Christmas, but I haven’t decorated the house in forever as we’ve gone on vacation during this holiday season for the last nine or ten years. With so much to do to get ready for each trip, it just didn’t seem worth it to get everything “out” if we weren’t going to be home to enjoy it.

This year, of course, is a different story. We are staying home for our long winter naps with visions of future travels dancing under our caps! Translation: I brought everything out because we are going to be home to enjoy it.

We moved to our present house four years ago, which means that it has never been decorated at this time of year. I did buy a poinsettia or two, and I did put out cards that we’d received, but that was about it.

This year, though, the card and poinsettia counter in the kitchen expanded exponentially. The one or two poinsettias are now joined by two more, plus two rosemary plants, a table-top Pine, and a three-part wreath for the front door, which lights up. Cards have found their way onto the entry table and decorative boxes are even on display in the laundry room. I’m definitely workin’ it!

Thirty years of memories flow throughout the house now, and I am really enjoying it. The glass bowl above normally holds the various twig and twine “balls” that you see, but I made it a bit more festive by adding other vestiges of our Christmas pasts. This combo is my new favorite of everything that I did.

However it is that you choose to celebrate, I hope there is some merry for you to (re)discover, too!
